A Japanese group of executives wants Tesla to invest in Nissan. This is reported by the British business newspaper Financial Times based on insiders.
According to the group, which is led by former Tesla executive Hiro Mizuno and backed by former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Tesla is interested in taking over Nissan’s factories in the United States.
Earlier this month, Nissan and Honda officially confirmed that the planned merger between the two Japanese car manufacturers will not go ahead. Nissan is reportedly looking for a new partner, with the company’s preference being an American ally. The Japanese group now hopes that Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, will become a strategic investor in Nissan. According to the newspaper, several Nissan executives are aware of the plan.
