The rally, which saw broad-based buying, added over ₹5 lakh crore to the market capitalization of BSE-listed firms.
The Sensex climbed 1,397 points to close at 78,584, while the Nifty gained 378 points, settling at 23,739. The Nifty Bank index jumped 947 points to 50,158, while the Nifty Midcap index advanced 825 points to 53,814.
Sectors linked to capital expenditure (capex) rebounded sharply, erasing Monday’s losses, with the Nifty Infra index rising over 2%. Stocks such as ABB, Siemens, NCC, and Cummins gained between 5% and 8%. Defence stocks also saw strong buying interest following a government official’s statement on a large order pipeline.
NBFCs extended their gains, with Shriram Finance and Cholamandalam Investment rising 5% each. Among other notable movers, Kalyan Jewellers surged 15%, while Godrej Properties ended 3% higher after maintaining its FY25 guidance.
