Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlight: The Nifty closed at its highest level in over two months, while the Nifty Bank index ended above the 55,100 mark for the first time in a month. The Sensex rose 595 points to settle at 82,381 and the Nifty advanced 170 points to 25,239. The Nifty Bank index gained 260 points to 55,148 and the Midcap index climbed 313 points to 58,800, moving largely in line with the benchmarks.
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Equity benchmarks ended sharply higher on Tuesday with gains across sectors, barring FMCG, as investors built fresh positions ahead of the US Federal Reserve policy outcome. Buying interest was visible in banking heavyweights, with Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank rising 2-3% each. Auto stocks extended their gaining streak, particularly in the four-wheeler space, with M&M and Maruti up 2% each.
Select NBFCs also saw healthy volumes, led by Chola Investment, which jumped 4%. Gold financiers continued to rally as gold prices hit record highs, with Muthoot Finance gaining 2%.
In the broader market, GMR Airports surged 4% on positive management commentary, while Amber Enterprises touched a record high with a 2% gain on reports of a qualified institutional placement launch. Midcap IT stocks traded firm ahead of the Fed policy, with Cyient and Persistent among the top gainers. Aegis Logistics rallied 7% after a positive brokerage note, and Redington hit the 20% upper circuit following major block deals.
On the downside, capital market stocks slipped despite the strong session, with BSE and Angel One ending 1% lower each. Vodafone Idea saw profit booking and closed with a 2% cut.
