Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The market ended near the day’s low on Thursday as a sharp sell-off in IT stocks dragged benchmark indices lower. The Nifty Bank index, although closing in the red, outperformed relatively with a fall of 144 points, led by gains in PSU banks. The Nifty PSU Bank index ended 1% higher as stocks like Canara Bank and Indian Bank rose after posting healthy Q1 earnings.
Among individual stocks, IEX tanked 30%, marking its worst-ever single-day decline after the CERC issued a market coupling order that raised regulatory concerns. IT majors bore the brunt of the selling pressure, with Infosys ending 1.4% lower despite posting a Q1 beat, as concerns over its outlook weighed on sentiment. Persistent Systems and Coforge saw steeper cuts, falling between 7% and 9% as their earnings internals failed to impress.
Nestle was the top Nifty loser, plunging over 5% after reporting a lower-than-expected Q1 performance. On the flip side, Eternal continued its strong upward move, ending as the top Nifty gainer with a 4% rise. Tata Motors and Samvardhana Motherson also gained on hopes of a favourable US-EU trade agreement.
