Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equities extended gains for a third session, with the Sensex rising 208 points and the Nifty closing above 25,900. Midcaps outperformed, Lumax hit a 20% upper circuit, while the rupee strengthened 18 paise.
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity benchmarks ended largely higher on Tuesday, extending gains for a third straight session, supported by broad-based buying across frontline and midcap stocks. The Sensex rose 208 points to close at 84,274, while the Nifty added 68 points to settle above the 25,900 mark at 25,935.
Market breadth remained firmly in favour of advances, led by the midcap segment. The Nifty Midcap index gained 295 points to end at 60,736, outperforming the benchmarks, while the NSE advance-decline ratio stood at 3:2. In contrast, the Nifty Bank underperformed, slipping 43 points to close at 60,626, with Federal Bank and IDFC First Bank among the top laggards.
On the Nifty, Eternal emerged as the top gainer, rising over 5%, followed by Tata Steel, ONGC and Bajaj Auto. Tata Steel extended its recent gains, climbing 3% during the session. Among individual stocks, Lumax Industries hit a 20% upper circuit and scaled a 52-week high after posting strong quarterly earnings, whileRailTel gained 4% after securing an order worth ₹4,550 crore from West Central Railway.
Sectorally, capital market stocks outperformed, withAngel One and CDSL rising 2% each. Eicher Motors advanced 2% ahead of its quarterly results. In the currency market, the rupee ended at the day’s high, strengthening 18 paise from the previous close, providing additional support to sentiment.
