Viz Media, a leading manga and anime platform, has acquired the rights to “One-Punch Man” Season 3, as the satirical superhero series prepares for its anticipated return.
The deal encompasses theatrical, television, digital, home entertainment, ancillary and merchandise rights across North America, Latin America and Oceania. The Japanese broadcast of Season 3 is slated to premiere in October.
Created by manga artist One and illustrated by Yusuke Murata, “One-Punch Man” follows Saitama, a hero who became so powerful through training that he can defeat any opponent with a single punch. The upcoming season will focus on the Monster Association arc, featuring S-class heroes planning a raid to rescue a hostage while the “human monster” Garou awakens within the enemy hideout.
J.C. Staff returns as the animation studio for the third season, with Tomohiro Suzuki handling series composition and character designs by Chikashi Kubota, Shinjiro Kuroda and Ryosuke Shirakawa. Makoto Miyazaki will compose the music.
The original manga, which began as One’s viral webcomic that gained over 10 million hits, is currently serialized on the webcomic site Tonari No Young Jump (Shueisha) and has achieved massive commercial success with more than 33 million copies in circulation. The property has proven to be a merchandising powerhouse, spawning everything from video games to collectibles.
The first season of “One-Punch Man” aired from October to December 2015 to widespread critical acclaim, followed by a second season that ran from April to June 2019.
Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available on Hulu in the U.S. and Netflix in Canada and Latin America. Digital purchase options are also accessible through Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Google, Apple TV, Microsoft Movies & TV and YouTube across U.S. and Canadian markets.
