Eagles Question of the Day:

How would you rank the Eagles’ offensive coordinator candidates at this point? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

Analyzing how the Eagles’ draft and financial resource allocation will shift this offseason – PhillyVoice
Players like A.J. Brown, Dallas Goedert, and Jahan Dotson will likely be gone this offseason, and the Eagles are on the clock to soon find successors for Lane Johnson, Saquon Barkley, and Landon Dickerson. That’s going to come via the draft. They need good, young, cheap offensive players in bulk, because the offense is getting old and the defense is going to be expensive. Could the Eagles use, saaayyy, a CB2? Sure, but in my view they’re unlikely to address the defense much with early picks. Why? Again, the offense has far more long-term needs, notably along the offensive line, where they build first and foremost. The other star players on defense — not to mention Vic Fangio — can make up for a hole here or there. The team will more likely seek to find cheap, competent vets for their scattered defensive holes. Having another young defensive draft pick hit would be great, but it also becomes an issue down the road. By the time that player is eligible for a second contract the Eagles will already have one of the most expensive defenses in the NFL. Over the next few years, expect the Eagles to draft a lot of offensive players with Day 1 and Day 2 picks.

The latest candidate eliminated from the Eagles’ offensive coordinator search – BGN
Monday previously brought us news of two Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator candidates being eliminated from the team’s search. LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle are reportedly no longer in play. Now we have a third name to cross off the Eagles’ list: Mike Kafka.

Where does the Philadelphia Eagles’ OC search stand after two weeks? – The Athletic
Any offensive coordinator will focus on the quarterback. Jalen Hurts’ credentials are indisputable. Franchises seek quarterbacks who can lead them to the Super Bowl, and Hurts has already reached the sport’s apex. His two best games have been on the biggest stage. But an accomplished quarterback does not make the quarterback the ideal fit for all systems, and there’s a belief that a system must be adjusted to accentuate the quarterback rather than taking Hurts and fitting him into your system. One could reasonably push back that the same is said about most quarterbacks. The best at the position have their own preferences and peccadillos. But if you have one summer to implement the offense, you’d better be confident in the quarterback’s fit. The talent around him is also in question. It’s unknown whether A.J. Brown and Lane Johnson will return to the roster next season. The Eagles have a history of fielding a high-powered offense and resources to add talent, but there’s ambiguity about signing on for all the blue-chippers.

The Eagles keep looking for a new offensive coordinator – PFT
No one is rushing for that assignment, whatever the eventual approach may be. The job will entail plenty of pressure and scrutiny. If things go poorly, the offensive coordinator becomes the pin cushion. His house potentially becomes the target for eggs. And, eventually, the offensive coordinator may end up being rewarded for his efforts to make it all work by getting fired. Often, the perennially dysfunctional teams have a hard time attracting a head-coaching candidate with options. The non-dysfunctional Eagles may be having the same problem, thanks to the perception of dysfunction within the offense; folks with choices don’t seem to be rushing to choose to become the next offensive coordinator of the Eagles.

Ravens request to interview Bears OC Declan Doyle – Baltimore Beatdown
The Baltimore Ravens submitted a request to interview Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for the same job on Jesse Minter’s new staff, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Doyle, 30, has quickly risen through the NFL’s coaching ranks. He began his career while still an undergraduate under longtime Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz. Doyle then got his first NFL job with Sean Payton’s Saints in 2019. He remained in his role as an offensive assistant until 2023, when he reunited with Payton in Denver as the Broncos’ new tight ends coach. [BLG Note: Will be interesting to see if Doyle wants to leave Chicago for the Ravens and not the Eagles.]

Lions to hire Mike Kafka in ‘high-ranking offensive staff role’ – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions are making a splash hiring, bringing in former New York Giants offensive coordinator and interim head coach Mike Kafka in a “high-ranking offensive staff role,” as first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and confirmed by other league sources. Kafka was a sought-after coaching candidate this offseason. Not only did he interview with the Lions for their offensive coordinator position before they eventually hired Drew Petzing, but he also interviewed for the Giants head coaching position and the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator position.

4 things to expect with Cowboys new defensive coordinator Christian Parker – Blogging The Boys
While Parker has worked with some good defensive minds in his career, his biggest influence is long-time defensive guru Vic Fangio. He worked under Fangio both in Denver and Philadelphia, and the expectations are that he’ll bring many of the same concepts from the Fangio-adjacent philosophy. What will that entail exactly? Fangio’s defense is all about mystery. They will consistently give you a two-high safety look, making things look the same before the ball is snapped, and hiding the real coverage until the very last second. Once the ball is snapped, defenders will rotate. It may be Cover 2, Cover 4, or a hybrid of the two in Cover 6/8 that mixes up their coverages on each half of the field. This offers a great deal of variety, but all of which isn’t revealed until after the ball is snapped. Adjustments happen on the fly as defenders will pattern match and switch to man if a receiver enters their zone. This eliminates the dead zones where defenders are just picking daisies in an unoccupied area of the field, something the Cowboys fell victim to many unders under Matt Eberflus’ zone coverage.

Washington Commanders have hired Joe Whitt’s replacement at defensive coordinator – Hogs Haven
According to multiple sources, the Commanders have reached the end of their search for a new defensive coordinator to replace Joe Whitt, who was relieved of his play-calling duties in November and fired after the end of the 2025 regular season. The new DC is Daronte Jones, who spent the past four seasons at the defensive backs coach and the most recent three seasons also as defensive passing game coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. His only defensive play-calling experience came in 2021 as the defensive coordinator at LSU. It is unclear whether defensive play-calling duties will be handled by Jones or head coach Dan Quinn.

NY Giants news: OC candidate Todd Monken ‘in the mix’ to join Browns as head coach – Big Blue View
The New York Giants coaching staff is beginning to take shape under new head coach John Harbaugh. But while the team filled their defensive and special teams coordinator positions, their offensive coordinator position remains open. Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is widely considered to be the favorite to land the job. However, he is also a candidate for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.

Report: Former Colts head coach in ‘progressing’ talks to become Jets next offensive coordinator – Stampede Blue
According to SNYTV’s Connor Hughes, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich is in ‘progressing’ talks to become the New York Jets next offensive coordinator on 2nd-year head coach Aaron Glenn’s revamped coaching staff:

How the Seahawks turned preseason doubt into absolute dominance – SB Nation
There was collective concern about the Seahawks in NFL circles before the season began. Even the most steely fan was worried that the choice to pivot from a known quantity in Geno Smith, to risking a ton of money on Sam Darnold, who only had one good season on his resume. Then after trading away D.K. Metcalf it was feeling more like the ‘Hawks were planning to rebuild, rather than compete for a Super Bowl — but how wrong we were. Not only have the Seahawks been one of the best teams in football this season, but they’re the favorites to win it all. If we dig into this Seahawks team there are five things that really make them tick.

Wetzel: Don’t take the weather out of football. Let it snow. – ESPN
Snowy weather played a role in the AFC Championship Game, grinding both sides — at least their offenses — to a near stop. The teams combined for just 48 fourth-quarter yards and zero points as New England held on for a 10-7 victory over Denver. The Patriots play Seattle in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8. For some NFL fans, drunk on a steady diet of offensive pyrotechnics and late-game shootouts, this felt anti-climactic. As such, there was plenty of complaining on social media about how the elements shouldn’t impact games of such magnitude and league championship weekend should be moved to neutral sites with domed stadiums, and blah, blah, blah …
