The Rental Support Scheme (RSS) payouts were scheduled to be disbursed starting from August 6, as announced by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). This initiative was aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and eligible non-profit organizations (NPOs) with rental costs during periods of tightened safe management measures. Specifically, the first payout was equivalent to half a month’s rent for the period from May 14 to May 29, 2021, and was disbursed directly to tenants without going through landlords, which was a new approach to reduce compliance burden and to ensure prompt support. Over 38,400 tenants and owner-occupiers received more than $216 million through this scheme.
